Atanarjuat is one of the most incredible films I’ve ever seen. Shot in Northern Canada completely in the Inuktitut language it stars and was filmed and produced by an entirely Inuit crew. Atanarjuat is about the legends of dark shamans and animal spirits, the life-or-death rigors of seal hunting, village culture, and first and foremost, The Fast Runner, a hero and icon of human endurance, the Inuit people, and how far and fast one can go if the spirit is strong. Few scenes in any film can compare to watching Atanarjuat undertake his greatest endurance tests or races for his life, and the actor involved brought the spirit of The Fast Runner back to life as he bled across the ice.
